An Introduction to ESLFiles' English Corner:
Each week I create a special English Corner worksheet that I use to encourage discussions and dialogue with students about a wide range of topics.
The topics are usually based on recent news or interesting articles I find. These English Corner worksheets include a short reading of the article with key vocuablary.
Follow-up questions about the article are included to encourage students to share their ideas and opinions.
Addtional exercises related to the topic are also sometimes added.
Most English Corner worksheets are targeted for Intermediate to Advanced level
students with topics appropriate for Middle School and above. However, they could be edited to work with lower skill levels. But please use your own discretion as some topics may be sensitive in the country you are teaching.
I create these lessons to develop students' ability to learn through English and express their own ideas and opinions.
This English Corner discusses the topic of privacy on social media websites. The article talks about a new French law that can allow children to sue their parents for posting embarrassing photos of them on social media.
This English Corner article discusses the topic of filial piety. This can be used to talk about family values in specific countries or differences in Western and Eastern views of family and how their cultures differ.
This English Corner discusses the topic of stealing and poverty. An Italian court came to the conclusion stealing food out of necessity is not a crime. Students will discuss whether this is a good decision by the court and possible consequences of this ruling.
